‌Russia Launches Over 100 Drones on Ukraine, Killing 10 as Kremlin Fires Transport Minister Amid Airport Chaos

Russia unleashed more than 100 drones on Ukrainian cities overnight, killing at least 10 civilians and injuring 38 others, including three children, Ukrainian authorities said Monday.

The wave of strikes comes as Moscow intensifies its aerial assault after over three years of war, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealing that Russia launched some 1,270 drones, 39 missiles, and nearly 1,000 glide bombs over the past week alone.

In the latest attacks, casualties were reported across multiple regions. One person was killed in the southern city of Odesa, 27 people were wounded in Kharkiv, and drone debris caused damage in two districts of Kyiv. In northern Sumy, Russian short-range drones killed two and injured two others. Meanwhile, in the eastern Donetsk region, at least seven were killed and nine injured, regional officials said.

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed its forces downed 91 Ukrainian drones overnight across 13 Russian regions, including Crimea and the Black Sea.

The Kremlin also announced Monday the dismissal of Transport Minister Roman Starovoyt, without stating a reason. The decision followed a weekend of massive travel disruptions after Ukrainian drones prompted widespread flight delays and cancellations across several major Russian airports, including Moscow’s Sheremetyevo and St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo.

As frontline fighting continues along a 1,000-kilometer stretch, Ukraine’s military remains under pressure. Zelenskyy said Kyiv has secured deals with European allies and a major U.S. defense firm to ramp up domestic drone production, aiming to deploy “hundreds of thousands” more this year.

“Air defense is the main thing for protecting life,” Zelenskyy said on Telegram, emphasizing the urgent need for interceptor drones to counter Russia’s long-range Shahed drones.

Amid stalled peace talks and ongoing Russian advances, Ukraine continues to press its Western partners for additional military aid to sustain its defenses and offset troop shortages on the battlefield.
