Russian Airstrikes on Lviv Kill 7, Injure 38 in Overnight Attack

Overnight Russian airstrikes on the western Ukrainian city of Lviv have killed at least seven people, including three children, and injured 38 others, regional authorities reported on Wednesday.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi confirmed the casualties, noting that the victims included young children. The attack caused significant damage, with a residential building near the train station engulfed in flames and two schools sustaining structural damage.

Despite the devastation, air raid sirens continued to sound in northern Ukraine by 8:30 a.m. (0530 GMT) as Russian combat drones were still active in the area. Power outages forced the local railway to switch to diesel locomotives for some routes.

This assault follows another deadly strike on Tuesday in Poltava, central Ukraine, where more than 50 people were killed and 270 injured in one of the most lethal attacks in over two years of conflict.

While Ukraine continues to receive military aid from Western nations, President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged allies to accelerate the delivery of advanced defense systems and longer-range weapons to help counter Russian airstrikes and better protect Ukrainian cities.
