Kenyan President William Ruto has called on African leaders to intensify efforts in achieving Agenda 2063, emphasizing that Africa’s transformation into a global powerhouse depends on decisive action.
Speaking at a virtual meeting of the African Union Development Agency-New Partnership for Africa’s Development (AUDA-NEPAD) Heads of State and Government Orientation Committee, Ruto stressed that success would not come by chance but through strategic choices, commitment, and effective implementation.
“Let us mobilize resources, strengthen governance, and forge partnerships that deliver tangible results for Africa’s people,” he said.
According to a statement from the Kenyan presidency, Ruto highlighted the responsibility of African leaders in driving sustainable development by adopting and championing Agenda 2063, a blueprint for the continent’s economic and social transformation.
The meeting, chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, was attended by several African leaders, including Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani (AU Chairperson), Rwandan President Paul Kagame, Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, Chadian President Mahamat Idris Deby, and Mohamed al-Menfi, President of Libya’s Presidency Council.
Ruto called for innovative financing solutions to address Africa’s infrastructure funding gaps, noting that inadequate investment hinders growth, integration, and trade.
“This deficit is the barrier that slows our integration, deters investment, and stifles trade,” he warned, urging leaders to explore alternative funding mechanisms beyond traditional sources.
The Kenyan leader also pressed for action on the Kampala Declaration on Agriculture, urging African nations to turn commitments into real investments that drive economic prosperity.
Additionally, he emphasized the need for climate-resilient development, calling on leaders to prioritize sustainable energy, climate-smart agriculture, and bold mitigation strategies.
“AUDA-NEPAD’s role in supporting climate adaptation is indispensable. We must forge strategic partnerships to combat this existential threat,” he stated.
Ruto’s remarks come as Africa seeks to accelerate economic growth, strengthen regional integration, and secure financing for key projects under Agenda 2063.
