Samsung Electronics’ co-CEO Han Jong-Hee has passed away at the age of 63 after suffering cardiac arrest on Tuesday, a spokesperson for the South Korean tech giant confirmed.

Han, born in 1962, had been overseeing Samsung’s consumer electronics and mobile devices businesses since 2022. He was appointed vice chairman and co-CEO that same year, sharing leadership with Jun Young-Hyun, who heads the company’s semiconductor division.

In an internal message, Samsung paid tribute to Han’s legacy, highlighting his 37-year tenure, during which he played a key role in making Samsung a global leader in the TV industry. As head of the electronics and appliances division, he also steered the company through economic challenges.

“Our deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the message read.

A spokesperson told CNN that no decision has been made regarding Han’s successor.

Han’s death comes just a week after he chaired Samsung’s annual investor meeting, where he apologized for the company’s stock performance and warned of economic uncertainties in 2025. He also emphasized Samsung’s commitment to pursuing significant mergers and acquisitions to drive growth, despite regulatory challenges.

Han joined Samsung in 1988 after earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Inha University. Before leading the electronics and devices division, he was responsible for the company’s display operations.
