Saudi Arabia’s airports set a new record in 2024, processing 128 million passengers, marking a 15% increase from the previous year and a 25% rise compared to pre-pandemic levels, according to the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA).

Domestic flights carried 59 million passengers, while international routes served 69 million. The Kingdom’s airports also handled 905,000 flights—474,000 domestic and 431,000 international—reflecting an 11% growth from 2023.

Saudi Arabia expanded its global air connectivity by 16%, linking the country to more than 170 destinations worldwide. Air cargo operations surged by 34%, surpassing 1.2 million tons, with King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh processing the largest share at 573,000 tons, followed by King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah (461,000 tons) and King Fahd International Airport in Dammam (140,000 tons).

The four main airports—Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, and Medina—accounted for 82% of total air traffic.

The Hajj season, from May 9 to July 21, contributed significantly to the air traffic surge, with 1.5 million pilgrims arriving by air, making up 40% of all international arrivals during that period.

The Jeddah-Riyadh route recorded the highest increase in domestic flight capacity worldwide, while the Cairo-Jeddah route ranked as the second busiest international route, according to global travel data provider OAG.
