Saudi Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Cairo After Crew Member Dies Mid-Air
A Saudi Airlines flight en route from Jeddah to London made an emergency landing at Cairo International Airport after the cabin director suffered a fatal heart attack mid-flight.
Aviation and security sources confirmed that the aircraft’s captain issued a distress call, prompting immediate clearance to divert to Cairo for urgent medical attention.
In an official statement on X (formerly Twitter), Saudi Airlines identified the deceased crew member as Mohsen bin Saeed Al-Zahrani. The airline said he died from a sudden health complication while carrying out his duties on board.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of our late colleague and pray for mercy and forgiveness,” the statement read.
The flight’s co-pilot safely landed the Boeing 777-300 at Cairo, where a medical team boarded the aircraft and confirmed that Al-Zahrani had died before landing.
His body was transferred to a local hospital, and Egypt’s Public Prosecution has opened an investigation to rule out any foul play.
Following the completion of all legal and medical protocols, the flight resumed its journey to London. No further details were provided about the incident beyond the airline’s statement.
