The MV Mariam, carrying 26,250 tonnes of atap rice from Pakistan, has arrived at Chittagong Port, according to a statement from Bangladesh’s Food Ministry on Saturday.

This delivery completes the 50,000-tonne rice import agreement established between Bangladesh’s Directorate of Food and Pakistan’s Trading Corporation on January 31.

The vessel reached the port’s outer anchorage on March 11 and docked at a jetty on Friday. Following quality testing of samples collected from the ship, unloading commenced on Friday evening.

The initial shipment under this government-to-government deal arrived earlier this month, marking a significant step in Bangladesh’s efforts to bolster its food reserves and stabilize domestic rice prices.

This collaboration highlights the strengthening trade relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan, aiming to ensure food security and meet the rising demand for staple commodities in the region.
