A U.S. Secret Service agent is under internal investigation after attempting to sneak his wife onto a government support aircraft accompanying President Donald Trump’s official flight to Scotland.

Trump, who returned to Washington on Tuesday, July 29, after a five-day overseas trip, confirmed the incident while speaking to reporters.

“Wouldn’t you think it might be a little dangerous?” he said, appearing surprised. “That’s a weird deal,” he added, but expressed confidence that Secret Service Director Sean M. Curran would “take care of it.”

According to Glasgow-based Herald reports, the Dallas-based agent flew his wife—who is a serving officer in the U.S. Air Force—to Maryland, where she received a formal briefing before being escorted to Joint Base Andrews. She was scheduled to board one of the aircraft in the presidential convoy before authorities flagged the unauthorized plan and removed her from the manifest.

Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi released a statement confirming the investigation.

“The U.S. Secret Service is conducting a personnel investigation after an employee attempted to invite his spouse — a member of the United States Air Force — aboard a mission support flight,” Guglielmi stated.

“Prior to the overseas departure, the employee was advised by supervisors that such action was prohibited, and the spouse was subsequently prevented from taking the flight.”

Guglielmi emphasized that the incident had no impact on the president’s protective operations, adding that no high-level protectees were aboard the support aircraft.

During international trips, multiple government planes typically accompany Air Force One to carry staff, security personnel, and equipment.
