Senator Ned Nwoko (PDP-Delta North) has been honored as the 2024 Man of the Year by the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA).

The recognition, announced by HURIWA’s National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, in Abuja on Saturday, celebrates Nwoko’s exemplary contributions to legislative excellence, community development, and human rights advocacy in Nigeria.

Onwubiko revealed that the award would be conferred on Nwoko during the International Human Rights Day celebration on December 10 in Abuja. The Senator has accepted the honor, expressing profound gratitude and reaffirming his unwavering commitment to justice, equity, and human rights.

Outstanding Legislative Accomplishments
Highlighting Nwoko’s legislative achievements, Onwubiko noted that the Senator has sponsored 25 bills and moved 19 motions in under two years, a record surpassing many of his contemporaries.

Among these, the Data Protection Bill stands out as a testament to his dedication to safeguarding digital privacy and security. Nwoko has also championed motions addressing critical issues such as flooding and environmental hazards.

“HURIWA also acknowledges Nwoko’s unwavering advocacy for establishing a National Social Security Agency to replace the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs,” Onwubiko said, noting that the recent executive proposal by President Bola Tinubu aligns with this vision, underscoring the Senator’s legislative impact.

Driving Community Development
Beyond his legislative successes, Nwoko’s commitment to community development has significantly impacted Delta North. His initiatives include scholarship programs, solar-powered streetlights, boreholes for clean water access, and free medical outreach programs to improve public health.

One of his signature achievements is the establishment of Africa’s first Sports University in Idumuje-Ugboko, which integrates academics with sports training, fostering youth development and economic empowerment.

Advocacy for Anioma State Creation
Nwoko’s passionate push for the creation of Anioma State remains a cornerstone of his leadership. This advocacy reflects the aspirations of Delta North communities for justice and equitable representation.

“The push for Anioma State is not just a political ambition; it is a movement anchored in justice and fairness,” Onwubiko stated, emphasizing that its realization would significantly advance the socio-economic progress of the region.

The recognition by HURIWA underscores Senator Nwoko’s dedication to creating meaningful change through visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to justice, equity, and human rights.
