Senator Ned Nwoko (APC-Delta North) has pledged N200 million to support a talent hunt initiative aimed at discovering and nurturing young Nigerian creatives in the film industry.

The lawmaker made the announcement on Saturday during the opening of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) office and the launch of its multi-purpose Super App in Abuja.

Nwoko, who chairs the AGN Board of Patrons and is married to Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, emphasized the importance of producing high-quality television series that can stand the test of time and showcase Nigeria’s creative potential.

“A well-produced series can serve generations continuously,” he said. “Countries like the UK, America, and Australia have had iconic series running for decades. It’s time Nigeria started developing such timeless content.”

“To kickstart this process and support the discovery of young talent, I am committing N200 million. This fund is for our young creatives to take advantage of and build something truly remarkable,” he added.

The senator praised the progress of Nollywood and stressed that beyond institutional aid, the industry also needs direct support from passionate individuals.

Nwoko also revealed plans to sponsor a bill seeking the formal establishment of the Actors Guild of Nigeria through an Act of Parliament. The goal, he said, is to bring the AGN in line with other professional bodies such as the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), and Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT).

Speaking on the creative hub in his senatorial district, Nwoko said, “Each time I talk about the creation of Anioma State, I mention its oil and gas-producing status, but I also proudly highlight that Asaba is the home of Nollywood.”

He encouraged Nigerian filmmakers to aim for global standards, saying, “You are globally recognised. What you need now is just a little more support to raise the quality of your productions to international levels.”
