Seven Contestants Prepare for Final Round of Korean Cooking Competition
Seven finalists participated in a Korean preparatory cooking class organized by the Korean Cultural Centre in Nigeria (KCCN) in Abuja on Tuesday. This session is a lead-up to the final competition set for August 31.
Selected from earlier rounds held on August 16 and 17, the finalists include Adenike Mogbojur, Francis Anna, Mmadubueze Cynthia, Victor Mac-Adonai, Hauwa Ibrahim, Halima Jibrin, and Patience Berepele. Notably, Pearl Ogbalu, Mamofede Layefa, and Yahya Bindir were absent from the preparatory class.
The contestants showcased their skills by preparing various Korean dishes such as Japchae, Dakgangjeong, Bapsang, Sogogi Muguk (beef radish soup), Bulgogi (fire meat), and Ssambap (rice lettuce wraps). Patience Berepele expressed enthusiasm about preparing Ssambap, a dish featuring steamed rice wrapped in cabbage and served with spicy beef sauce.
Halima Jibrin described her experience making Sogogi Muguk as insightful, noting the popularity of spicy soups in South Korea’s winter cuisine. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to enhance her skills and knowledge of Korean food.
Francis Anna highlighted her increased familiarity with Korean cuisine and her preparation for the final competition, expressing optimism about her performance.
Ms. Lee Hyerim, KCCN Culture Event Officer, praised the contestants for their dedication and skill in Korean cooking. Ms. Habiba Yakubu, another KCCN official, emphasized the class’s role in honing the contestants’ cooking skills and time management.
The competition’s top prize is N1 million, with second and third places earning N700,000 and N400,000, respectively.
