The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of seven persons in a fatal crash that occurred on Monday evening in Panti, along the Bida-Mokwa Road in Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) from the FRSC Kutigi Command, the incident happened at about 6:09 PM. The crash involved a Toyota Corolla with registration number ANW243AH and a white Jack truck with an unknown registration number.
The report revealed that the truck was en route from Lagos to Abuja, while the Toyota Corolla was traveling from Batati to Kutigi (Jipkan).
Nine individuals—four males and five females—were involved in the crash. Tragically, seven people, including two males and five females, lost their lives.
The FRSC attributed the cause of the accident to excessive speed, loss of control, and dangerous driving.
“The corpses of the victims were taken to the General Hospital in Kutigi for confirmation before being handed over to their families for burial,” the report stated.
Meanwhile, the wreckage of the vehicles has been placed in the custody of the Motor Traffic Division (MTD) at Kutigi Police Division.
This incident serves as a somber reminder of the dangers of reckless driving and the need for road users to prioritize safety at all times.
