Spanish side Sevilla FC have officially terminated the contract of Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho, ending his stint at the club just one year after his arrival.

The 28-year-old joined Sevilla on a free transfer from Leicester City in the summer of 2024, signing a deal originally set to run until June 30, 2026. However, the club announced on Monday that both parties had reached a mutual agreement to part ways.

“Sevilla FC and Kelechi Iheanacho have reached an agreement to terminate the contract of the Nigerian striker. Iheanacho joined the club last summer after ending his contract with Leicester City,” the official statement read.

Iheanacho struggled to make an impact at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium, making just 15 appearances across all competitions in the first half of the 2024/25 season and scoring three goals. In January, he was loaned to English Championship side Middlesbrough, where he managed one goal and two assists in 15 appearances.

Despite hopes of a revival, Iheanacho was left out of Sevilla’s matchday squads for the opening three La Liga fixtures of the 2025/26 campaign — a clear indication he was no longer in the club’s plans.

With his future now open, Iheanacho has been strongly linked with a move to Scottish giants Celtic, where he could reunite with Brendan Rodgers, his former manager at Leicester City.

The Super Eagles striker will now be looking for a fresh start as he aims to rediscover his form ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
