Showtime Flag Allocates N20m for Season 2 Bowl Series
Showtime Flag, the world’s leading co-ed flag football league, has announced a N20 million prize pool for its upcoming Bowl Series Season 2 competition. The league’s Chief Executive Officer, Manal Nassar, shared the news at a press conference in Lagos on Tuesday.
Founded on July 7, 2023, Showtime Flag is Nigeria’s largest semi-professional co-ed flag football league. The league, established by Azeezah Amida, features a 7-on-7 format where men and women compete on mixed teams.
According to Nassar, the top six teams from the regular season will advance to the playoffs, vying for a spot in the championship game, known as ‘The Showtime Bowl.’ The winner will be awarded a cash prize, trophy, and player rings.
The Season 2 competition is set to run from September 6 to December 15, spanning 16 weeks. Twelve teams, including Warriors Flag Football, Outlaws Athletics, Spartans FC, and Lagos Raptors, will compete for the grand prize of N20 million. The champions will receive N6 million, while the runner-up will take home N4 million. The third and fourth place teams will each receive N2.5 million, with additional cash prizes awarded to other participants.
Nassar emphasized that Season 2 aims to expand the league’s reach and improve public understanding of flag football. “This season will be bigger and better, building on the success of our first edition in 2023,” she said.
Showtime Flag is also committed to grassroots development through its “Showtime Streets” initiative, where promising players are scouted and integrated into the professional league. Showtime Flag Commissioner Adebare Adejumo highlighted the league’s focus on younger athletes, noting that the age range for participation has shifted to include players aged 15 to 25.
“Our goal is to discover world-class talent and grow the sport’s presence in Nigeria, Africa, and beyond,” Adejumo added.
