South Africa Deports 95 Libyans for Illegal Military Training in Mpumalanga
On Sunday, South Africa deported 95 Libyan nationals who were arrested last month at a suspected illegal military training camp in Mpumalanga province.
The Libyans, who entered the country in April on study permits intended for security guard training, were apprehended in July during a police raid on a camp in White River, a popular holiday destination in the northeastern region.
During the raid, authorities discovered military training equipment and drugs, raising suspicions of illegal military activities.
The Libyans were found to be in violation of their visas and South Africa’s immigration laws by engaging in unauthorized military training.
The Home Affairs Department revoked their visas, stating they were fraudulently obtained in Tunisia through misrepresentation. After appearing in the White River magistrate’s court three times, the National Prosecuting Authority withdrew the charges against them. They were subsequently deported to Benghazi via the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport.
Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber emphasized that his department remains committed to enforcing immigration laws and will continue to use all available resources to ensure compliance.
