The South Korean government, through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), has pledged to support Nigeria’s digital economy by enhancing e-governance systems. This commitment was made during a one-day Government Services Portal (GSP) stakeholders’ engagement workshop in Abuja.

KOICA Country Director, Mr. Sungil Son, highlighted the partnership with the Nigerian government to develop a comprehensive portal that will serve as a one-stop platform for citizens to access a wide range of digital services.

“The portal will streamline service delivery, improve transparency, and enhance the overall experience for citizens engaging with government agencies,” Sungil said.

The event, organized by Galaxy Backbone in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, marks a significant step towards fully integrating government services into the digital ecosystem.

Sungil emphasized that the workshop was key to involving stakeholders in the GSP’s development, which aims for full activation by mid-2025. KOICA is committed to ensuring the portal’s success by working with all relevant agencies.

Prof. Muhammed Abubakar, Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, praised KOICA’s support and explained that the GSP would allow Nigerian citizens to access a wide range of government services through an integrated platform.

“The GSP is designed to enable seamless information sharing between government agencies, businesses, and individuals, forming a core part of Nigeria’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI),” Abubakar stated.

Prof. Youngchae Song, a digital governance expert, provided an overview of the project, which began in 2020 and is expected to be completed by 2026.

GSP developer Mr. Mohammed Jammal addressed security concerns, assuring that robust measures are in place to protect sensitive data and prevent breaches through a permission-based system that ensures accountability.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, Mr. Faruk Yabo, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to integrating these services to enhance accessibility and transparency across Nigeria.
