South Korea’s military has dismissed North Korea’s accusation that a drone from the South breached North Korean airspace after taking off from Baengnyeong Island near the disputed western maritime border.
During a press briefing on Monday, Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) spokesperson Lee Sung-joon described the North’s claim as “unilateral” and stated it did not merit a response. Lee further highlighted that North Korea has violated South Korean airspace with drones more than a dozen times over the past decade.
The remarks also addressed a recent statement from Kim Yo-jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, who implied retaliation if a South Korean drone entered its capital’s airspace. Lee assured that the South Korean military is prepared to take all necessary measures to ensure the protection of its citizens and territory.
