The South Korean government has suspended the local operation of Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) app DeepSeek over data privacy concerns.

The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) announced on Monday that it halted DeepSeek’s service at 6 p.m. (0900 GMT) on Saturday, citing issues with the app’s data collection practices. The suspension will remain in place until the company implements “improvements and remedies” in compliance with South Korea’s personal information protection laws.

According to the PIPC, DeepSeek is cooperating with the authorities to address the concerns and work toward restoring its services.
