South Sudan Parliament to Resume in June After Extended Recess
South Sudan’s National Assembly will reconvene in the first week of June following an extended recess, according to a statement from the Office of the President.
President Salva Kiir issued the directive on Wednesday after a meeting with Speaker Jemma Nunu Kumba to review key legislative priorities ahead of the new session.
Top of the agenda will be the deliberation on the national budget for the 2025–2026 fiscal year. Speaker Kumba emphasized that approving the budget is crucial for tackling the country’s most urgent economic and development challenges.
President Kiir described the resumption of parliamentary activities as a renewed commitment to strengthening governance and fostering regional cooperation, noting it aligns with ongoing efforts to reinforce state institutions.
