The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening trade, cultural, and tourism ties with China, highlighting the importance of fostering mutual growth and collaboration.

Speaking at the Chinese New Year Temple Fair, also known as the Spring Festival, in Abuja on Saturday, Mr. Oraeluno Raphael, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, emphasized the historical bond between the two nations.

Raphael likened the evolving Nigeria-China relationship to a snake shedding its skin, symbolizing renewal and transformation. He described the cultural connection between both countries as a “vital link” that promotes understanding and unity.

“Both Nigeria and China share the values of family, community, and respect for elders, which form the foundation for our enduring friendship,” Raphael said.

He congratulated the Chinese government and the Chinese community in Nigeria on the 2025 Spring Festival, expressing gratitude to the Chinese Embassy for its unwavering support in cultural and tourism initiatives that have bolstered economic prosperity.

Raphael reiterated the ministry’s dedication to policies that enhance cultural exchanges, artistic collaboration, and tourism opportunities, expressing optimism for a future of flourishing interactions.

The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, highlighted the significance of 2025 as the Year of the Snake in the Chinese Zodiac, calling it a milestone in the thriving Nigeria-China partnership.

Dunhai underscored the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, noting it has elevated the strategic partnership between both nations. He also highlighted Nigeria’s recent entry into the BRICS group as a partner country, which he said reflects Nigeria’s growing influence on the global stage and enhances its economic development prospects.

“Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to Nigeria reinforced our shared commitment to expanding cooperation and implementing high-level agreements,” Dunhai said.

He described the Vision Action Plan set to commence in 2025 as a key driver for deeper collaboration between the two nations, focusing on mutual benefits and sustainable progress.
