Sri Lankan Prime Minister Steps Down After New President’s Election

Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister, Dinesh Gunawardena, resigned on Monday morning following the election of Anura Kumara Dissanayake as the country’s new president.

In his resignation letter, Gunawardena stated that he was stepping down in line with Sri Lanka’s constitution after Dissanayake’s election as the Ninth Executive President.

Gunawardena expressed his congratulations to Dissanayake, saying, “I respectfully congratulate you on being elected as the ninth Executive President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. I hope you continue our efforts to lift the nation and provide welfare to the people during these challenging times.”
