Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has urged his team to improve despite securing a 2-0 victory against Rwanda in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday in Kigali.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, the Malian tactician praised his players’ performance against a strong Rwandan side but emphasized the need for further refinement ahead of their next fixture against Zimbabwe in Uyo.
“It was a difficult game because Rwanda is a good side. I know their coach; he is a good coach. We also played a great game. I’m happy and proud of my players and the Nigerian people,” Chelle said.
He revealed that the team had prepared extensively through video analysis and tactical training sessions leading up to the match.
“We worked a lot in the last week, gathering information for the players. We had only two training sessions but focused on video analysis. The win was deserved because Rwanda had only one real chance in the first half. In the second half, we controlled possession and played in different tactical setups,” he added.
Chelle acknowledged the team’s strengths but admitted there were areas to work on as they continue their qualification campaign.
The Super Eagles will face Zimbabwe on Tuesday as they look to strengthen their position in the qualifiers.
