Three people were killed by suspected herdsmen in Mshen community, Nyihemba, located in Mbaikyor council ward of Kwande Local Government Area, Benue State. The victims—identified as a housewife, a petty female trader, Andeh Aondover, and a motorcycle rider, Boki Tyodzua—were reportedly ambushed on their way back from Jato-Aka Market.

The attackers were said to have dispossessed the victims of their belongings, including cash and goods, before killing them. The tragic incident occurred just about a kilometre from a military camp at Government Secondary School, Anwase.

Youth leader of the ward, Igbawua Gandepuun, who confirmed the attack on Sunday, April 13, said angry youths from the community protested the killings by taking the victims’ bodies to the military base, blaming the soldiers for failing to protect residents.

Gandepuun further alleged that local farmers have been unable to begin land clearing for cultivation due to continued threats by suspected herdsmen. He claimed that some individuals who attempted to clear their lands were also killed, and their bodies remain missing.

The community has called on authorities to strengthen security in the area to prevent further loss of lives and ensure safe access to farmlands.
