2 24

The Tanzanian government has announced plans to begin paying volunteers serving in public institutions, in a move aimed at formally recognising their contributions to national development.

Deputy Minister of Public Service and Good Governance, Deus Sangu, made the disclosure on Friday, May 2, 2025, while responding to questions from Members of Parliament in the National Assembly in Dodoma.

The initiative follows the introduction of new national guidelines that aim to support and formalise volunteer work across the public sector. According to the government, the payments will serve as a form of appreciation and motivation for citizens offering their services voluntarily.

The policy is expected to strengthen the role of volunteers in enhancing public service delivery, while also encouraging greater civic participation. Further details on implementation timelines and payment structures are yet to be released.
