Team Nigeria Arrives Egypt for Africa Junior Swimming Championship
Team Nigeria has arrived in Egypt for the 16th Africa Junior Swimming Championship, set to take place from Wednesday to Saturday.
The Nigerian contingent includes 14 swimmers—eight boys and six girls—led by the President of the Nigeria Aquatic Federation (NAF), Taiwo Oriss, and the Secretary General, Chinonye Aliyu.
Head coach Yellow Yeiyah and his assistant, Labake Oriretan, are part of the delegation, alongside some of the swimmers’ parents.
Speaking earlier to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Aliyu said the championship would serve as a crucial step in the team’s preparation for the 2026 Youth Olympics in Senegal.
“We have been training in Lagos for over two weeks with seven swimmers. Now we are joined by others based in Dubai and the United Kingdom,” she explained.
She expressed gratitude for the support received from the National Sports Commission (NSC) and expressed confidence in the team’s potential to win medals.
“This tournament serves as a preparation ahead of the Youth Olympics in Senegal in 2026,” Aliyu added.
