Telegram Founder Durov Reveals Will, Delays Inheritance for Kids, Confirms Over 100 Children via Sperm Donation
Pavel Durov, the co-founder of Telegram, has revealed that his children will not have access to his wealth for the next 30 years, citing a desire to instill independence and resilience.
“I decided that my children would not have access to my fortune until a period of thirty years has elapsed, starting from today. I want them to live like normal people, to build themselves up alone, to learn to trust themselves, to be able to create, not to be dependent on a bank account,” Durov said.
The tech entrepreneur explained that he made the decision to draft a will due to the high risks associated with his mission to defend digital freedoms and keep Telegram free from state control.
Durov disclosed that he is the official father of six children with three different partners. However, he also revealed that he began anonymously donating sperm 15 years ago to help a friend, resulting in over 100 births across 12 countries.
“Six of whom I am the official father, whom I had with three different partners. The others come from my anonymous donation. The clinic, where I started donating sperm fifteen years ago to help a friend, told me that more than 100 babies had been conceived this way in 12 countries,” he said.
Durov added that if anything happens to him, a non-profit foundation will take over the running of Telegram to ensure the platform remains independent and committed to privacy and free expression.
“If I disappear, a non-profit foundation will take over. My goal is to ensure the platform’s continuity: I want it to continue existing independently, regardless of privacy and freedom of expression,” he stated.
