Terrorist Attacks in South-Western Pakistan Leave 33 Dead
A series of coordinated terrorist attacks across south-western Pakistan claimed the lives of at least 33 people on Monday, targeting police officers, local residents, and passengers.
According to provincial government spokesman Shahid Rind, the attackers struck in three separate regions, targeting railway tracks, a gas pipeline, and a police station.
In the early morning, armed militants in Musakhail district blocked the inter-provincial highway, forced passengers off buses and trucks, checked their identities, and executed 23 individuals from Punjab. The attackers set vehicles ablaze after the assault.
In a separate attack in Kalat district, 10 people, including five police officers and five civilians, were killed during a gunfight at a police station. At least nine others were injured, according to local police officer Ihsanullah Khan.
The attackers also sabotaged a railway track in Bolan and damaged a gas pipeline in Dera Bugti.
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a banned separatist group, claimed responsibility for the attacks. Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest and most volatile province, continues to experience violence from Islamist militants, sectarian groups, and nationalist insurgents. Many of the victims were workers from other provinces, especially those involved in projects under China’s $62 billion investment plan.
