Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the introduction of a global e-visa system, set to take effect on January 1, 2025. The initiative, operating under the slogan “Apply, Anywhere, Anytime,” aims to simplify the visa application process and improve accessibility for foreign nationals.

Available at 94 Thai embassies and consulates worldwide, the e-visa system allows applicants to submit their visa applications online via www.thaievisa.go.th, which supports 15 languages. In many countries, the platform also enables online payment of application fees, further streamlining the process.

Worawoot Pongprapapant, Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs, highlighted that the new system enhances security by improving the screening process and integrating databases with other agencies while significantly reducing paperwork.

The e-visa system targets applicants for non-exempt visa categories, as citizens of countries with existing visa exemption agreements will continue to enjoy their benefits for eligible visa types. Notably, visitors from 93 countries can enter Thailand visa-free for up to 60 days for tourism or business purposes, as previously announced in July 2024.

“This program is a response to global needs for easier access to Thailand. By moving the application process entirely online, we are eliminating unnecessary complexities and enabling access worldwide,” said Pongprapapant.

Maris Sangiampongsa, Thailand’s minister of foreign affairs, described the initiative as part of the government’s broader efforts to revamp the visa system, enhance Thailand’s global image, and boost international confidence in the nation’s hospitality and accessibility.
