Thailand’s Air Force has announced plans to adopt the name Royal Thai Air and Space Force, reflecting its growing focus on addressing emerging space threats and protecting national space interests. The renaming will take effect on April 1, 2025.
The restructuring was confirmed by Air Marshal Prapas Sornchaidee, spokesman for the Royal Thai Air Force. He emphasized that the change is aimed at strengthening Thailand’s capabilities in the increasingly critical domain of space.
As part of this transition, the Air Force will establish a Coordination Center for National Interests in Air and Space, which will work in collaboration with domestic and international agencies to advance Thailand’s strategic goals in both sectors.
To formalize the transition, a draft law will be reviewed by the Defense Council, parliament, and the Constitutional Court. Implementation is expected by 2028 following royal endorsement and publication in the Royal Gazette.
In addition to the name change, Thailand plans to launch two new satellites in 2025 to replace existing ones that are nearing the end of their operational lifespan. These satellites are expected to bolster Thailand’s space-based capabilities and ensure continuity in national defense operations.
The rebranding highlights Thailand’s commitment to modernizing its defense infrastructure to address evolving global challenges in both air and space domains.
