Thousands Rally in Lahore for Imran Khan’s Release
Thousands of supporters of the Pakistan Tehrik-e Insaf (PTI) party converged in Lahore on September 21 to demand the release of the party’s founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned for over a year on multiple charges.
The rally, which saw participants from across Pakistan, included a significant contingent from Peshawar, the capital of the northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. This group was led by Ali Amin Gandapur, the region’s chief minister and a prominent PTI leader.
One of the conditions set by Lahore authorities for permitting the rally was that Gandapur issue an apology for critical remarks he made about Pakistan’s military. Despite this requirement, Gandapur has not offered an apology, but the rally proceeded, with PTI supporters demonstrating their unwavering demand for Khan’s release.
The rally highlighted the ongoing tension between PTI supporters and the government over Khan’s imprisonment, drawing attention to the broader political landscape in Pakistan.
