Three personnel of the Nigerian Army have been arrested following an alleged attack on police officers during a routine patrol along the Shao–Malete Expressway in Kwara State.

The incident, according to a situation report from the Shao Police Unit, occurred on December 23, 2025, at about 5:45 pm when a police patrol team intercepted two motorcycles along the route.

The report stated that three occupants, later identified as soldiers, disembarked from the motorcycles and confronted the officers. The suspects allegedly attempted to disarm the policemen and physically assaulted them during the encounter.

One police officer, PC Abdulganiyu Abdullateef, sustained injuries in the incident. The patrol team reportedly called for reinforcement from the division, but before additional officers arrived, the suspects fled the scene.

However, the motorcycle rider, identified as Saka Suleiman, a resident of Shao, was arrested at the spot.

During interrogation, Suleiman reportedly identified one of the fleeing soldiers as Saka Jamiu, also a native of Shao.

Further investigations led to the arrest of the remaining suspects in the early hours of December 24, 2025, at about 1:00 am. The suspects were identified as Atunwa Adekunle, Ishola Awolola and Saka Jamiu, all natives of Shao and serving members of the Nigerian Army.

Police said one dagger was recovered from the suspects, adding that arrangements were underway to transfer them to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Ilorin for further investigation.

The police authorities assured that appropriate disciplinary and legal actions would be taken against those involved upon the conclusion of investigations.
