President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Dr Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, making her the first woman to head the institution since its establishment in 1962.

The appointment was confirmed in a statement issued on January 6, 2026, by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. Dr Odusote will assume office on January 10, 2026, for a four-year term, succeeding Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose tenure ends on January 9.

At 54, Dr Odusote brings decades of academic and administrative experience to the role. She is currently the Deputy Director-General of the Nigerian Law School and Head of its Lagos Campus, one of the institution’s largest and most prominent centres for legal training.

Dr Odusote obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She later earned a Master’s degree in company and commercial law from the same university before completing a doctorate in law at the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, with a focus on public law and the administration of justice.

She joined the Nigerian Law School as a lecturer in 2001 and has since served in several key capacities, including Head of the Academic Department and Director of Academics. Her career also includes time as a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University, as well as active involvement with the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.

As Director-General, Dr Odusote will provide academic leadership and oversee the strategic management of all Nigerian Law School campuses nationwide. She will also serve as a key liaison between the institution and the Body of Benchers.

Her appointment marks a significant milestone for legal education in Nigeria and is widely seen as a breakthrough in promoting gender inclusion in the leadership of one of the country’s most prestigious legal institutions.
