President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of six chief medical directors (CMDs) to oversee federal government-owned hospitals across the country.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced the appointments on Friday, stating that they align with Tinubu’s commitment to improving Nigeria’s healthcare system and ensuring quality medical services for all citizens.
Among the new appointees are:
- Olusegun Sylvester Ojo – Chief Medical Director, Federal Teaching Hospital, Akure, Ondo State
- Yusuf Mohammed Abdullahi – Reappointed as Chief Medical Director, Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe
- Dauda Abubakar Katagum – Confirmed as Chief Medical Director, Federal Teaching Hospital, Azare, Bauchi State
- Ikrama Hassan – Chief Medical Director, newly upgraded Federal Teaching Hospital, Lafia, Nasarawa State
- Ali Mohammed Ramat – Chief Medical Director, newly established National Orthopedic Hospital, Maiduguri, Borno State
- Haruna Abubakar Shehu – Chief Medical Director, newly established Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan, Kaduna State
According to Onanuga, Abdullahi’s second and final term as CMD of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, began on September 5, 2024, while Katagum’s tenure at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Azare, Bauchi State, took effect from December 6, 2024.
The appointments take immediate effect, with each CMD serving a four-year term.
President Tinubu congratulated the appointees, urging them to uphold professionalism, accountability, and efficiency in service delivery.
