Tinubu Arrives in China for State Visit, Focuses on Infrastructure and Economic Partnerships
President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Beijing, China, for a five-day official state visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and advancing key infrastructure projects. His arrival, confirmed by his spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale, took place at approximately 9:00 a.m. local time on Sunday. Tinubu was received by top Chinese officials and welcomed by Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and Sani Uba of Kaduna State, along with members of his cabinet.
During the visit, Tinubu is scheduled to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss strategic partnerships. One of the primary goals of the trip is to secure agreements that will ensure the completion of the Ibadan-to-Abuja segment of the Lagos-Kano high-speed rail project, a key agenda item for Tinubu’s administration.
In addition to high-level talks, the President will visit major corporations, including Huawei Technologies and the China Railway and Construction Corporation (CRCC), to explore potential investments and collaborations. Ngelale highlighted that Tinubu will also meet with CEOs of 10 leading Chinese corporations managing assets worth over $3 trillion across various economic sectors.
The President’s visit will culminate in his participation in the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit, where he will engage with African leaders and Chinese officials to discuss crucial issues affecting the continent. This visit underscores Nigeria’s commitment to deepening economic ties with China and accelerating infrastructural development.
