President Bola Tinubu has appointed Vice-President Kashim Shettima to head Nigeria’s delegation at the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa. The summit is scheduled to take place in Apia from October 21 to 26.

The announcement was made on Sunday through a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, the president’s senior special assistant on media and communications.

CHOGM 2024 will gather leaders from 56 member states, including King Charles III, to discuss the theme “One Resilient Common Future: Transforming Our Commonwealth.” Key topics will include global economic recovery, sustainability, and security. The leaders will also explore ways to enhance trade, foster innovation, and build a digitally connected future.

One major highlight of the summit will be the election of a new Commonwealth Secretary-General, with African candidates from Lesotho, Ghana, and The Gambia in contention.

As part of the Nigerian delegation, Vice-President Shettima is expected to participate in high-level discussions and forums, engage with global leaders, and work to attract investments for Nigeria’s development.
