Tomi Ojo: How Rejection Fueled My Nollywood Breakthrough
For actress Tomi Ojo, the journey to Nollywood recognition was paved with rejection, resilience, and self-discovery. In a recent chat with Sunday Scoop, Ojo reflected on how early setbacks helped shape her career.
“I’ve been at this since 2018. It was a slow and steady climb, but I’m thankful for every step I had to take. Every setback taught me something valuable, and every encounter influenced my growth,” she shared.
Ojo, who recently starred in the film Makemation, described her rise in the Nigerian movie industry as a testimony to perseverance. Speaking about the project, she praised the collaborative effort behind it. “It’s a film that demanded a lot from everyone involved. Seeing the results today is truly rewarding,” she said.
While acknowledging that younger actors are gaining more visibility, Ojo believes there’s still significant progress to be made. “I’m grateful for the era we are in, but there’s much more we can achieve. Compared to other global industries, we still have barriers to break and milestones to reach. But I’m proud—we are taking up space,” she stated.
Highlighting lessons learned along the way, the actress stressed the need to trust one’s journey amid external pressures. “There are so many voices in the creative space. Everyone has advice. But it’s important to filter, find your voice, and stay patient. That’s a lesson I cherish,” she added.
