Tragedy at Obudu Ranch: 4 Seminarians Killed, 9 Injured in Bus Accident

Four seminarians from Enugu Catholic Church lost their lives, and nine others sustained injuries in a tragic bus crash at the Obudu Ranch Bottom Hill in Obanlikwu Local Government Area of Cross River State on Saturday, May 3, 2025.

The seminarians were returning from a tour of the Obudu Ranch Resort when the bus they were travelling in reportedly suffered brake failure. The vehicle plunged into a valley at Ikwete community, resulting in the instant death of four occupants, while the injured were rushed to a hospital in Obudu for treatment.

In response to the incident, the Cross River State Governor, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, expressed deep sorrow. In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Nsa Gill, the governor described the crash as a heartbreaking loss and assured that the state government was reaching out to affected families to offer support.

“The unfortunate incident resulted in the loss of four lives and injuries to nine others. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement read.

Governor Otu also commended the swift intervention of emergency responders, including personnel of the Nigerian Army stationed at the Ranch. He emphasized the state’s commitment to reviewing safety measures at the resort and urged all visitors to prioritize vehicle roadworthiness and adhere to safety guidelines.

The tragic accident has cast a somber shadow over the popular tourist destination, prompting renewed calls for improved road safety in hilly and remote areas of the state.
