Tragedy in North Carolina: Four Young Sisters Die in House Fire After Being Left Home Alone
A devastating house fire in Columbus County claimed the lives of four young sisters, aged between 2 and 7, in the early hours of Saturday, August 30. Authorities confirmed that no adults were present at the time of the incident.
According to Columbus County Fire Marshal Shannon Blackman, the fire broke out around 2:30 a.m. at a residence on North Colony Road. The blaze tragically killed Kendall, Kalani, Josie, and Sophia — four siblings who were home alone overnight.
Two 12-year-old girls, including one of the victims’ sisters, managed to escape the fire and quickly called 911. Emergency crews from the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office and Chadbourn Rescue responded within minutes, but the house was already engulfed in flames.
“Due to the severity of the fire, it was not possible to make a safe entry into the home,” Sheriff Bill Rogers said in a statement.
The tragedy has deeply affected the local community, with many expressing grief and support for the family. A GoFundMe page launched by residents Ansley Hayes and B. Tyler Grainger described the loss as “heartbreaking.”
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the devastating news of the tragic loss of Kendall, Kalani, Josie, and Sophia,”# the fundraiser reads. “These beautiful souls brought immense joy and love to their family and everyone who was blessed to know them.”
The girls’ mother has been identified by local media as Reagan Powers. An investigation into the cause of the fire — and why the children were left unattended — is ongoing.
