A tragic accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, August 17, 2025, when an Adamawa Express bus plunged into the Namnai River in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The vehicle, reportedly en route to Taraba, lost balance while attempting to cross a collapsed section of the Namnai Bridge, sending the bus and its passengers into the river below.

The bridge, which collapsed over a year ago, has remained unrepaired despite repeated warnings and appeals from residents and commuters about the dangers it poses.

Though details remain unclear at the time of filing this report, several passengers are feared dead, with emergency services yet to confirm the exact number of casualties.

Local residents have expressed outrage and frustration, blaming government negligence for the recurring tragedies on the route.

“We’ve lost many lives and properties because of the government’s failure to act. This incident is yet another painful reminder of the urgent need to fix this bridge,” a witness told reporters.

The incident has once again raised concerns over infrastructure safety in rural Nigeria, especially along major transit routes.
