A tragic accident claimed the lives of six students from Federal University Lokoja (FUL) and their shuttle bus driver on Monday after a trailer rammed into their vehicle.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. when an articulated truck transporting wood and palm oil lost control and collided with the fully loaded university shuttle bus.

“The trailer crushed the bus while the students were about to be conveyed to campus,” a witness said.

Officers from the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) arrived at the scene to rescue victims trapped under the trailer. However, FRSC Kogi State Sector Commandant, Samuel Oyedeji, could not confirm the total number of casualties at the time.

The deceased have been taken to the morgue for identification, while injured survivors are receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, and Kogi State Specialist Hospital.

Meanwhile, students have flooded social media with tributes, sharing photos and mourning their classmates.
