Two children were fatally struck by a train on Monday after crossing from an unauthorized area near Giza, according to a statement from the Egyptian National Railways Authority (ENRA).
The tragic incident occurred at 7:43 a.m. at the Al-Bulayda railway crossing in the Al-Ayyat district. The children attempted to cross the tracks despite the area being restricted, leading to their deaths.
The accident disrupted train services on the Sohag-Port Said route, causing delays. Following the incident, local residents gathered at the scene, assaulting the railway guard and setting fire to the guard’s cabin, which led to a temporary suspension of train operations in both directions.
The ENRA urged the public to use designated railway crossings for safety and to prevent further tragedies and damage to railway property.
