Transgender Influencer Fatally Stabbed in Georgia Following Anti-LGBT Law Passage

A prominent transgender actress and influencer, Kesaria Abramidze, 37, was tragically stabbed to death in Georgia, just a day after the country’s parliament passed a controversial law banning LGBT propaganda. Abramidze, a well-known public figure with over half a million followers, suffered more than 50 stab wounds in the brutal attack at her home in Tbilisi, the capital city.

The suspect, Beka Jaiani, 26, who was reportedly acquainted with the victim, was apprehended at Tbilisi International Airport while attempting to flee the country. CCTV footage allegedly captured him waiting near the elevator in Abramidze’s apartment building, then fleeing down the stairs shortly after the attack.

Abramidze had gained national attention after undergoing gender-affirming surgery in 2014 and representing Georgia in the Miss Trans Star International pageant in 2018.

Her death has sparked outrage, particularly in light of the newly passed anti-LGBT law. Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili, an outspoken critic of the law, condemned the killing as “a denial of humanity,” expressing hope that the tragedy would prompt societal reflection.

This marks the third high-profile murder of a transgender woman in Georgia in recent years, as the country increasingly aligns its policies with Russia, banning same-sex marriages, adoption by same-sex couples, and gender-affirming care.
