Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, backed by fighter jets from the Nigerian Air Force Air Component, have successfully repelled a terrorist attack on a military base in Goniri, Yobe State.

The incident reportedly occurred around 12:15 a.m. on Monday when insurgents attempted to overrun the 120 Battalion position under Sector 2 in Goniri.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the development in a post on X, citing security sources. According to the report, the terrorists breached the defensive perimeter of the military facility and engaged troops in a fierce gun battle.

Troops on ground were said to have sent out a distress call during the confrontation, prompting a rapid response from the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai.

Following the alert, fighter aircraft were immediately deployed to provide close air support and track the movement of the attackers around the area.

Security sources said the jets carried out precision airstrikes, dropping two bombs on the terrorists’ positions. The strikes reportedly killed at least 10 insurgents who were attempting to flee after sighting the aircraft.

The swift intervention by the air force disrupted the assault and enabled troops to regain control of the base.

Sources noted that the coordinated response between ground forces and air support played a crucial role in foiling the attack and restoring tactical advantage to the troops.
