Troops intercept hard drugs as trafficker abandons vehicle in Nasarawa
Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) have thwarted an attempt to transport hard drugs through Nasarawa State after intercepting a vehicle laden with substances suspected to be marijuana.
The interception occurred on October 14, 2025, during a routine stop-and-search operation around Anguwan Malama in Akwanga Local Government Area.
According to Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation WHIRL STROKE, the driver of an ash-coloured Toyota Solara with registration number KJA-108FY (Lagos) abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes upon sighting the troops.
“Despite a swift pursuit by the soldiers, the suspect managed to escape. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of several bags containing substances suspected to be marijuana. The vehicle and recovered exhibits are currently in military custody for further investigation and eventual handover to the appropriate authorities,” the statement read.
The Force Commander, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops through the Commander of Sector 2, Brigadier General D.C. Nwakonobi, for their vigilance and professionalism in intercepting the consignment.
He reaffirmed the commitment of Operation WHIRL STROKE to maintaining security across Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States by denying criminal elements freedom of action and strengthening inter-agency collaboration to ensure continued peace and stability in the region.
