Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised 29 terrorists during coordinated military offensives carried out across Borno State and Yobe State between Saturday and Sunday.

The operations targeted insurgent enclaves in Lamusheri Village, Gujba, as well as the Forward Operating Base in Limankara and the town of Kukawa in Borno State. In a statement on Sunday, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, North East, Operation Hadin Kai, Sanni Uba, said the missions demonstrated sustained military pressure on terrorist strongholds in the region.

According to the statement, 15 terrorists were killed in Gujba, Yobe State, during a precision operation under Operation Desert Sanity V. Troops of Sector 2, acting on credible intelligence supported by surveillance and reconnaissance, stormed Lamusheri Village in the early hours of February 22. The area was described as a key logistics hub for insurgents.

Despite coming under fire on approach, troops, working in synergy with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, outflanked the terrorists and cut off their withdrawal routes. “During the ensuing firefight, 15 terrorists were neutralised, while scores fled with gunshot wounds,” Uba said.

He added that terrorists who attempted to infiltrate the Forward Operating Base in Limankara were repelled without casualties on the side of the troops. Human intelligence, however, confirmed multiple casualties among the attackers, with the situation said to be firmly under control.

In Kukawa, Borno State, insurgents launched a coordinated multi-pronged attack but were overwhelmed by superior firepower and air support. Fourteen terrorists were neutralised, while others reportedly withdrew with casualties. Troops later recovered 13 AK-47 rifles, 16 loaded magazines, three handheld radios and other items during follow-up operations.

The military confirmed that one soldier was killed in action during the Kukawa operation, while some equipment was destroyed by rocket fire. Wounded personnel were evacuated and are reported to be in stable condition.

Uba said the synchronised offensives across multiple fronts reflect the resolve of Operation Hadin Kai to degrade the combat capability of terrorist groups operating in the North-East, adding that the military high command has commended the troops and urged them to sustain the momentum in ongoing clearance operations.
