Troops Nab Suspected Gunrunner, Seize AK-47 and Ammunition in Plateau
Troops of Sector 5, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), have arrested a suspected gunrunner and recovered an AK-47 rifle with ammunition during a snap checkpoint operation in Plateau State.
The arrest occurred at about 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Mangar in Daffo District, Bokkos Local Government Area, following credible intelligence about the movement of illegal arms in the region.
The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Zubairu Ahmed, was intercepted by the troops and found in possession of one AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with three rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition, a motorcycle, two Tecno mobile phones, some clothing items, and N400 in cash.
Military authorities confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody for further investigation, and efforts are underway to apprehend other members of the suspected arms trafficking network.
The arrest marks a significant success in ongoing security operations aimed at curbing the proliferation of illegal weapons and ensuring lasting peace in Plateau and surrounding states.
