Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have eliminated two terrorists in Kebbi State and rescued 62 abducted persons in Zamfara State during coordinated military operations.
The operations, carried out by troops operating under Sector 2, were conducted in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilantes, reinforcing ongoing efforts to curb banditry and terrorism in the North West region.
In Kebbi State, the troops, acting on actionable intelligence, ambushed members of the Lakurawa terrorist group near the border between Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State and Binji Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The operation took place in Kerani Village, where two terrorists were neutralised.
Items recovered from the scene included two motorcycles used by the insurgents. The terrorists were reportedly dressed in camouflage uniforms, while the motorcycles were padded with thick blankets and equipped with items designed for long-range movement, including hand tyre pumps.
In a separate operation in Zamfara State, troops stormed Munhaye Forest, a known hideout of a notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Alti, following intelligence that several captives were being held in the area. The operation led to the successful rescue of 62 kidnapped victims.
The Nigerian Army said the rescued hostages are currently in safe custody, while efforts are ongoing to reunite them with their families.
The Nigerian Army said the operations highlight the sustained commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA and its partners to dismantling terrorist and bandit networks, restoring peace, and safeguarding lives across the region.
The development was disclosed in a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, dated January 21, 2026.
