Troops Repel Boko Haram Infiltration Attempt on Lake Chad Naval Base, Kill Scores
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have foiled an attempted infiltration by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists on the Naval Base at Lake Chad Fish Dam, killing scores in a fierce overnight battle.
According to military sources, the insurgents launched the coordinated assault around 2:00 a.m. in an effort to destroy recently acquired swamp buggies donated by the Borno State Government for clearing Lake Chad waterways.
Naval personnel stationed at the base successfully repelled the attackers with support from reinforcements deployed from Baga. The intense firefight, which lasted more than two hours, forced the terrorists to retreat without reaching their intended targets.
Scores of terrorists were neutralised during the encounter, while several improvised explosive device (IED) components were recovered at the scene.
The military confirmed a limited breach during the attack, resulting in the destruction of an ambulance and two other vehicles. Some personnel were wounded but are receiving medical attention.
Air component platforms have since launched follow-up operations along the waterways to pursue and eliminate any fleeing terrorists. The military reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining control over strategic assets in the region.
