Troops of the 28 Task Force Brigade, Sector 4, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), early Saturday repelled a major attack by ISWAP/Boko Haram fighters in Chibok, Borno State, while air interdiction by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) neutralised scores of the fleeing insurgents.

According to information obtained by Zagazola Makama, over 300 terrorists launched a coordinated, multi-directional assault on the community around 3:00 a.m., attempting to overwhelm military positions.

A security source said the troops responded swiftly with superior firepower, engaging the attackers in a fierce two-hour battle that forced them to retreat toward the Timbuktu Triangle.

“The troops were alert and professionally contained the attack. There was no casualty on our side, and no equipment was affected,” the source said.

After the ground forces pushed back the terrorists, they called for air support, prompting immediate deployment of NAF combat aircraft to the withdrawal route.

“The NAF jet delivered precise and devastating strikes along the terrorists’ escape route, obliterating a significant number of the fighters and disrupting their movement,” the source added.

Sources confirmed that four major airstrikes were conducted along the terrorists’ withdrawal axis, guided by real-time intelligence provided by ground troops. The first strike hit a cluster of regrouping fighters, while subsequent strikes targeted additional pockets of terrorists attempting to disperse into the surrounding forest.

In addition to the manned aircraft operations, an unmanned aerial platform carried out further high-precision attacks.

“The platform maintained continuous ISR coverage and engaged with high accuracy. Its strikes further eliminated retreating fighters and disrupted their movement pattern,” one of the sources said.

The coordinated ground and air operations inflicted substantial losses on the insurgents and effectively prevented them from reorganising after the failed offensive.
