Trump Alleges Obama Led Coup, Urges Legal Action Against Former President

U.S. President Donald Trump has accused former President Barack Obama of orchestrating a coup attempt against his administration, claiming to have “irrefutable proof” and calling on authorities to “go after” Obama.

During a press conference with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in the Oval Office, Trump deflected a question about convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein by pivoting to unsubstantiated allegations against Obama.

“The witch hunt you should be talking about is they caught President Obama,” Trump said. “They tried to rig the election—starting in 2016 and going up to 2020. They got caught, and there should be very severe consequences.”

Trump claimed Obama personally ordered illegal operations, saying: “Obama’s been caught directly. His orders are on the paper. The papers are signed.”

He further accused Obama, along with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former President Joe Biden, of running a “criminal operation,” labeling Obama the “ringleader” behind attempts to undermine the 2016 and 2020 elections.

“What they did is criminal at the highest level. They tried to steal and obfuscate the election,” Trump declared.

Former President Obama’s office issued a rare public rebuke, denouncing Trump’s claims as “outrageous” and “ridiculous.”

“Out of respect for the office of the presidency, our office does not normally dignify the constant nonsense and misinformation flowing out of this White House with a response,” the statement said. “But these claims are outrageous enough to merit one. These bizarre allegations are ridiculous and a weak attempt at distraction.”

The Obama office reiterated that Trump’s claims had no basis, referencing a recent report from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who alleged election fraud without offering evidence of vote manipulation.

The statement noted that findings from both the intelligence community and a bipartisan 2020 Senate report led by then-Chairman Marco Rubio confirmed that while Russia sought to influence the 2016 election, there was no evidence votes were changed or manipulated.
